Guest Speaker Sessions

Corporate sessions are to inform the participants about the trends and challenges of the market. Through these sessions, students are able to prepare themselves for the World of Work and become good marketable graduates.

Company presentations are a good source of communication to the general audience. OCLP at UMT invites different organizations at the campus to deliver presentations not only about their processes and work behaviors but how the recruiters are expecting the graduates to have prepared themselves for the corporate. Participants are advised to attend such presentations to enhance their knowledge about different organizations working under various disciplines to not only set their career goals and missions to also polish their skills accordingly.

Company presentation is a unique way of communicating and building the brand image for an organization. They get the idea of the potential audience that attend the presentations and encourage them to add their organization in the top 10 companies they wish to work with. These presentations/sessions also help the students to self analyse themselves and to enhance the skills which are required in their field.

Future Quality Graduates

Office of Corporate Linkages and Placements (OCLP) at UMT, Quaid-e-Azam Campus, Lahore organized a Guest Speaker Session on “Future Quality Graduates” on Thursday, March 5, 2020. Mr. Muhammad Omar Iqbal – Corporate Trainer and Management Consultant and the founder of Potentia was invited to conduct the session. He showed the participants McKinsey workforce skills model. In this model the skills were divide into five (5) categories namely, Physical and manual skills, Basic Cognitive skills, Higher Cognitive skills, Social and emotional skills and Technological skills. He also showed the evolution in skill categories from 2002 – 2016 and 2016 – 2020 with the help of a chart. He told the participants that all this change is happening because of Technological Transformation. He also advised the participants to do six (6) things before their graduation. These six things are joining extracurricular activities, doing research work, using social media smartly, doing internship as an opportunity, developing positive habits and doing online certifications.

From Academia to Software Technology

OCLP organized a corporate session on “From Academia to Software Industry” exclusively for students from School of Systems and Technology (SST) on March 5, 2020 at Room No 316 STD Building. Mr. Adil Farooq, CEO of HazelSoft Company were invited to UMT to deliver a Talk and interact with students to orient them about the expectations of software industry in terms of skills and demands and the required outlook and mindset while joining an employer. 45+ students from SST joined the session and raised relevant questions to overcome their confusions.

A power pack corporate session on the topic of “Increasing Pakistani Capacity of Women in STEM and Entrepreneurship” was organized by OCLP on February 28, 2020 at 1C-17 whereby 2 international speakers Ms. Eileen Brewer - Global Consultant and Ms. Cathy Simpson - Certified Scrum Trainer were invited from USA to interact and inspire UMT female students and faculty towards Entrepreneurship. 100+ UMT Power puff girls attended the session. The speakers not not only open up their minds but also persuaded them towards entrepreneurship.

Islamic Microfinance Session

Office of Corporate Linkages and Placements (OCLP) at UMT, Quaid-e-Azam Campus, Lahore organized a Guest Speaker Session on “Islamic Microfinance” on Thursday, February 27, 2020. Miss Mariam Shakir Yasin – Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Islamic Microfinance Network was invited to conduct the session. She explained in detail about the difference in conventional finance and Islamic finance. She communicated the participants that how Islamic Microfinance Network is doing Microfinance as a Service. She told about types of Islamic Microfinance such as partnership based, rental based, trade based and interest free. She also told the participants about their journey from sympathy to empathy.

Induction Session by Abudawood

AbuDawood conducted an induction session on February 19, 2020 on campus. The organization had offered Management & Associate Trainees position to the candidates of BBA, MBA, Bachelors in Business & Information Systems, BS Accounting & Finance, Electrical Engineering and Industrial Engineering (Students looking to pursue their career in Business Management i.e Supply Chain and Marketing). They registered several students for their upcoming recruitment game and also gave bags as giveaways to the students who registered for the test. Sabiqa Qamar Kiyani (Head of HR) along with her team explained the recruiting process and career path at AbuDawood. They also distributed giveaways to the students who registered themselves on-spot at their online portal for MTO position.

A corporate session on “Hey! Come and Learn your Winning Shots….” was organized by OCLP on February 11, 2020 at Grand DG Boardroom whereby Mr. Suhail Ghauri, an expert from USA was invited to UMT to orient and enlighten the students about the importance of career preparation. 30+ students from different disciplines of UMT attended the session. Students showed their keen interest throughout the session and actively participated. Students were also involved in interesting quizzical activities. The reviews of the students were above satisfaction.

Central Superior Services (CSS) Training Seminar

March 06, 2019

OCS in collaboration with Career Karwan facilitated UMT students by conducting a (Central Superior Services) CSS training seminar in which Mr. Yasir Pirzada, CSS Officer Commissioner Income Tax, and Columnist Daily Jang & The News delivered guidelines to students regarding relevant and required information for CSS preparation. He also talked about important tips and tricks to ace the exam and the success factors required for qualifying the exam.

Nearly 250 students attended the seminar and took benefit from this informative session. In the end Mr. Pirzada answered the questions of the students and guided them accordingly. The event was much appreciated by the participants and attendees of the seminar.

Pakistan Airforce - Induction Session

March 01, 2019

OCS - UMT organized an induction session by Pakistan Air Force. Sq Leader Amjad Imran delivered the session and briefed about the induction plan for graduates who wish to work with PAF in selected domains. PAF commissions promising and dedicated youth in the officer cadre like (GD (P)/CAE (PSYCHOLOGY/ ISLAMIAT), METEOROLOGY, legal for its different branches biannually. The students were also informed about the eligibility criteria for different positions at PAF.

Students attended the session with great enthusiasm. In-depth Q/A session took place followed by a group photograph.

OCS organized a session on Retail Management for Business students. Omer Farooq, CEO - Institute of Retail Studies was invited as a guest speaker for this session. He has a diverse background of pharmaceutical, services, hospitality, and retail industry. He was part of the team launched Pakistan’s first organized retail brand. He shared his experience related to retail management and gave insights to the participants regarding this domain which was valuable for the participant’s future.

Breakthrough77 - Systems Ltd.

Breakthrough77 session was conducted for CS/SE/IT students and graduates at UMT. Breakthrough77 is an innovative technology education initiative newly launched by Systems Ltd. Three main courses were revealed in this session for UMT students/graduates including Introduction to ERP Development in Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Developing Microsoft Azure Solutions and Design Thinking.

This session was organized to give students, fresh graduates, budding & experienced professionals an introduction to access high-quality, innovative and in-demand technical courses. These courses aim to cultivate the skills of proactive learners by giving them opportunities to prove their mettle.

Team Building - Stewart Pakistan Pvt. Ltd.

A session was organized by OCS on Team Building exclusively for business students. Afsheen Iftikhar, Head HR - Stewart Pakistan Pvt. Ltd. was invited for the session as a guest speaker. Through different techniques, participants were able to understand how they can be a strong member of a team and lead it efficiently through effective communication, building trust, and leadership skills.

Huawei ICT Competition - Orientation

Huawei OCS-UMT in collaboration with Huawei organized a Huawei Pakistan ICT Skill Competition 2018 at UMT Campus. This event engaged over 50 campuses across Pakistan, targeting 7000+ students who participated in this competition.

An orientation session was conducted jointly by OCS-UMT and Huawei in which 50+ participants took part and were briefed about this competition and its rounds.

Nielsen Induction Session

Nielsen (formerly known as AC Nielsen) conducted an induction session at UMT. The induction session included all aspects of how Nielsen can be a better employer and also how can a graduate opt for such a smooth and short career path. Few positions were also shared amongst the candidates along with a brief about Nielsen and its induction policy.

A presentation along with an inspirational video was shared amongst the audience of Business and Economics. The session was informative and effective in terms of getting awareness about a global leading information and measurement company.

PAF in collaboration with OCS conducted an induction and awareness session where Squadron Leader Amjad Imran delivered a detailed presentation on the origin, history and current scenario of Pakistan Air Force. AIESEC - YouthSpeak Forum (LHE Chapter)

AIESEC in collaboration with Office of Career Services at UMT Lahore Campus conducted an INFO SESSION at UMT Lahore. The representatives of AIESEC Lahore Chapter arrived at the campus with zeal and zest. They encouraged students to attend their training session at Ali Institute, Lahore.

YouthSpeak Forum is a premiere event that brings together both young and senior leaders to form a diverse cross-sector and multi-generational space for inspiring conversations around pressing global issues. The forum aims to create an environment where people from diverse backgrounds can cross-pollinate ideas, share insights and gain new perspectives to create actionable outcomes to push the world forward.

We make this happen by taking our delegates through the unique and interactive framework of Inspire, Engage, Act.

About 15 students from different disciplines participated in the info session and many bought the ticket worth PKR 1,500/- for the training session where lunch along woth several other interactive sessions and activities were arranged.

AIESEC - Annual Recruitment (LHE Chapter)

AIESEC, World's largest youth-driven organization, conducted its information session at University of Management and Technology (UMT) with the facilitation of Office of Career and Services (OCS). Aim of AIESEC is to fulfill humankind's potential. It has been facilitating youth leadership activities as well as international internships and volunteer experiences for over 65 years. AIESEC believes in the leadership development of youth through cross-cultural exchange. It facilitates students with international internship opportunities through its Exchange Programs.

This session was held on Thursday, September, 22 in UMT. This session included basic information of AIESEC and interactive session with students of UMT and how they can participate in their Annual Recruitment this year.

23 students from different disciplines (Business Education, Software Engineering and BS MC) attended this session.

After a brief introduction by Zareen Khan (Senior Officer, Office of Career Services-UMT), AIESEC representative Nimra Shakeel and Anas gave a presentation where they introduced AIESEC.

An aggressive session of question/answer session was held between participants and representatives of AIESEC at the end.

CARE Foundation 2016

Haier Pakistan

Office of Career Services (OCS) has put its effort for building the future of UMT participants/graduates by organizing an induction session in collaboration with Haier Pakistan for its MTO Program.The event was held on Monday, March 28, 2016 (11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.) at Conference Hall. The agenda of the session were as follows:

  1. To address new job concerns at Haier pakistan
  2. Increase knowledge about Haier Pakistan, its policies and procedures
  3. To help UMT students to build their career path with Haier Pakistan. 

Haier Pakistan is the No.2 home appliance brand in Pakistan. Mr.ShahidAlvi- Head of Human Resources along with his team at Haier Pakistan delivered a comprehensive session including the details of its MTO program, eligibility criteria, policies and procedures at Haier Pakistan and other additional aspects about the company. Haier Pakistan will be inducting candidates for their MTO Program in April-May 2016.

About seventy two (72) participants have attended the session along with few SBE faculty members. The faculty members and participants found it very healthy and fruitful academia-industry collaboration.

CARE Foundation 2015

CARE Foundation is a welfare trust that aims to provide quality education to the underprivileged children of Pakistan. They are currently educating 175,000 children managing over 257 schools. Representatives of CARE Foundation delivered company’s presentation to the BBA (HR, Marketing, Supply Chain) students.

The main agenda of the presentation was create organization awareness among young students and recruit interns for summer internship programs. The CARE Team prepares an extensive curriculum which the interns are required to teach to the underprivileged children in Government schools. The curriculum involves various activities such as sessions on nutrition, hygiene, public speaking and so on, which could add value and encourage the students to think out of the box as the children of Government schools do not get an opportunity to participate in such activities at the same level as private students.

Madera Group

HR representatives of Madera Group of companies visited UMT for talent hunt seminar. Madera Group has recently collaborated with an International Venture Capitalist fund, with them Madera Group are out on a talent hunt for young individuals to partner with them and take their Mobile Apps or Web projects to international levels according to the potential.

In this regard, they conducted a seminar with final year BSc Computer Sciences Students. Total 29 students had participated in this activity. Company representatives had discussed their projects with the students and collected students profiles.

Sparklist

A seminar was organized by Office of Career Services (OCS) at UMT and Sparklist at Seminar Hall .Mr. Nalla Karunanithy (Global managing Director) introduced Sparklist to the audience. He also shared how he experientially learnt business from every perspective, including operations, product development, etc.

Mr. Nalla also shared his ideas of building a business from scratch and then propelling it in a competitive environment. He was keen to talk about the development of the Sparklist App (challenges, processes, strategies, complications, successes).

Mr. Nalla found to be very satisfied with the interactive session. Around 150+ participants from SBE attended the seminar.

Jotun

With the coordination of OCS HR representatives of Jotun Group made  a presentation to students majoring in Marketing, Human Resource and Supply chain with 2-3 years of experience. This presentation was given to the students of SPA and SBE departments. The purpose of the presentation was to provide information about the company and to offer students internships and job opportunities in the company particularly for their Jotun MEIA Graduate Program.

Company information was announced to the students who are interested in applying, and their questions were answered.
