UMT Career Fair 2016 Attracts 3000+ Job Seekers

The Office of Career Services (OCS) at the University of Management and Technology (UMT) Lahore organized UMT Career Fair 2016 on November 16, 2016 under the theme ‘Campus to Corporate.’ The Career Fair brought 105 MNCs, local and SME organizations including Nestlè, Zong CMPAK, Hino Pak, Bayt.com (Strategic cCareer Partner), Huawei Technologies, Urban Sole, HBL, Stylo Group, Hardee’s, Starlet, Netsol Technologies, Careerz360, Bank Alfalah Limited, Allied Bank, The Inksters, and many more under one roof. The Career Fair witnessed over 3000+ job seekers and study abroad applicants from UMT and other universities nationwide exploring internship/job opportunities and foreign education facilities in their areas of interest.

UMT is educating business leaders of tomorrow whilst creating knowledge that has critical significance for both industry and society. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan recognizes all degree programs offered by UMT, which distinguishes itself with 600+ faculty members including 125+ PhDs, 16,000+ alumni and 10,000+ plus students, currently enrolled from 100 districts of Pakistan and 18 countries across the globe. The dedicated services of OCS play an important part in the life of UMT graduates. From helping in crafting an outstanding personal branding statement to providing guidance through the recruitment process step by step as a result of 360 recruitment consulting, OCS makes UMT participants and graduates stand out from the crowd. UMT graduates who work with OCS staff members vouch for the right mix of choices and decisions that OCS staff helped them to make. OCS extensive networking with employers benefits them as much as it benefits UMT participants and graduates. And so one can say with confidence that the OCS led wow factor makes waves.  

OCS is working very hard towards bridging the gap between the education and corporate sector. It has already helped hundreds of talented UMT graduates to find the right career path. The objective of the Career Fair was to provide an opportunity to the job seekers for personal and professional growth through interaction with top corporate organizations while presenting themselves as the best candidate for vacancies available in the market. It provided an excellent opportunity to meet top recruiters of the country with hundreds of job openings. On the other hand, it also provided organizations an opportunity to showcase their human resource function and employers branding, helping them to attract talented, qualified and motivated human resources.

Expressing their feelings, some of the participants stated that the UMT Career Fair was an exciting opportunity to interact with the companies of their choice. They said that the event had brought opportunities to learn from the exposure and polished their skills for seeking jobs in the competitive environment.

While addressing the job seekers and the organizations Jamil A Naz ((Industrialist and Chairman WTO Committees) who inaugurated the event along with David Guo (Director of Training and Certification, Enterprise Business Dept, Middle East, Huawei Tech), Ibrahim Hasan Murad (Director of Academic Quality and Assessment, UMT) and  F Robert Wheeler III, J.D (Dean SBE) who appreciated the efforts of UMT and OCS to organize such a successful and beneficial Career Fair. He added that such events are a good initiative by academia's management for participants and they should take benefit from these opportunities by actively participating in such activities.

Moreover, Mr David Gwolang expressed that such event is a great opportunity for both the university participants/alumni as well as the organizations, as both the parties become better aware of each other's preferences, eventually making the recruitment process more fruitful. UMT’s Dramatic Club highlighted the issues which participants face during the recruitment by performing a short yet entertaining skit.

The Career Fair gained remarkable popularity among students, professionals and corporate community in a very short span of time. In order to provide entrepreneurial orientation to the students and visitors from all over Pakistan, 30+ entrepreneurial stalls of different products were also exhibited; these stalls not only entertained the visitors with delicious food but also inspired students with creative ideas and instigated them to become entrepreneurs.  

The Career Fair 2016 was organized in collaboration with the Jang Group as an Official Media Partner with a vision to ‘Campus to Corporate’ while Huawei Technologies, Careerz360, Bayt.com (Strategic Career Partner), Urban Sole, HBL, Stylo Group, Hardee’s, Starlet, Careerz360 and The Inksters were the main sponsors.

Begum Zakiya Shahnawaz (Minister of Higher Education, Population Welfare and Environment Protection) and David Guo (Director of Training and Certification, Enterprise Business Dept., Middle East, Huawei Tech) were the chief guests at the event’s closing ceremony. They presented souvenirs to all the participating organizations and also congratulated UMT, OCS and ushers for arranging an efficacious event.

After this outstanding success, we believe that UMT Career Fair2016 brought talented job seekers and employers at a single platform and shared common interest to excel. This indeed, was heartening and also enabled us to achieve our goal of empowering youth. No matter what area of interest anyone has or is specialized in, all types of jobs were offered in UMT Career Fair 2016.

At the end, Aqeel Baloch (Manager Career Services and Industrial Linkages, OCS) along with his team congratulated and thanked all the Sponsors, Organizations, UMT Faculty, Staff Members and Ushers for making the event successful.

It is worth mentioning that the students commended the services of UMT and OCS. They were of the view that UMT has provided quality education and healthy academic environment.  This initiative has led to career guidance and professional growth opportunities for them. The students added that the UMT Career Fair 2016 has resulted in quick recruitment process in various organizations. Majority of the employers stated that HR branding, strong trust and familiarity with OCS were the major reasons that led them to participate in this year’s Career Fair. A few employers considered it because of the high volume of hires and the huge benefit of networking.

UMT Career Fair 2016 has helped hundreds of job seekers from various universities of Lahore and proved beneficial for many corporate organizations. We hope that the future gives us another chance to witness more of such amazing and successful events!
