Engineering Your Dream Career

The Office of Career Services (OCS) at the University of Management and Technology (UMT), Lahore, organized domain specific, UMT Career Fair for Engineering and IT, under the theme ‘Engineering Your Dream Career’ sponsored by Lotte Akhtar Beverages, Careem and Cotton Web Pvt. Ltd. It was conducted specifically for UMT School of Engineering and School of Systems and Technology whereby 40+ organizations comprising of Engineering & IT participated. UMT participants of different engineering and IT domains including Software Engineering, Civil, Electrical, Industrial and Mechanical Engineering, were provided with the best of the best opportunities to start their dream career.

The list of participating organizations including Cotton Web Ltd, Lotte Akhtar Beverages, Descon Engineering, Mott Macdonald (MM Pvt. Ltd.), Haier Pakistan, Izhar Monoo Developers, Cure MD, Blue Group of Companies, Auj Group, Mughal Iron & Steel Industries Ltd, Sapphire Finishing Mills Ltd, Speridian Technologies, The Urban Unit, Zoom Petroleum (Pvt) Ltd, Remington Pharmaceuticals, Atiq Associates, Colibrative Heavy Industries (PVT) Ltd, Hub Engineering, Irshad Training Works, ABN Overseas Education, Emerging Visions (PVT) Ltd, NC Solicitors, Oranet Training & Solutions, RepairDesk Pvt Ltd, SigmaTec Solutions (Pvt) Ltd, Upgenics International, WBM International, and many more had set up their recruitment stalls under one roof. Candidates networked and exchanged their data with the recruiters along with presenting their FYPs for a bonus mark. 

The objective of this event was to boost the hiring of Engineering and IT domain participants along with providing awareness opportunity regarding the recent advancements and innovations that are being inculcated daily in the world of work with the growing age of disruptive innovation.  Also, a glimpse of what the corporate sector is looking for was displayed in this event in order to make the future human resource realize the gaps between academia and the professional world. Recruiters held talks with the fresh graduates and evaluated their knowledge, skills, and passion to learn in a working environment. Candidates were able to deliver around 500+ CVs directly to the recruiters.

Waseem Nazir (Managing Director, MM Pakistan (PVT) LTD.) along with Sharjeel Khan Lashari (CEO, Quantum Intelligence), Sajjad Ahmad (CEO – Sagacious (PVT) LTD.), Dr Muhammad Aslam (Rector - UMT), Khalid Naqi (Director Career Services and Chief Transformation Officer (CTO) – ICDF – A Think Tank - UMT), and other senior faculty and staff members of UMT inaugurated the career fair. They also visited all the corporate stalls and admired OCS efforts to provide job opportunities at the doorsteps.

In his opening remarks, Dr Muhammad Aslam applauded the efforts of the Office of Career Services and appreciated the staff members for conducting this event exclusively for Engineering and IT domain. He mentioned that Engineering and IT students have applied knowledge which is essential for this domain. He shared his hopes that these students are expected to get jobs and if not, then they should have the ability to start their own business and if they cannot start any business in Engineering and IT, they cannot start any other business. He guided the students that they should not always be looking for government or public jobs but should also be open for private jobs as well, as they offer pretty attractive packages too.

 

Waseem Nazir (Managing Director, MM Pakistan (PVT) LTD.) delivered a presentation aimed to give our students a reality check of the world of work. He emphasized on the professional attributes and ethics needed by the engineers including discipline and patience. Waseem also shared the secrets of his success including vision, passion, attitude and behavior, habits, competence and goals. He explained all these elements individually and mentioned that all these elements are essential for success. Waseem shared his life’s journey and explained how he maneuvered different challenges that became obstructions in his success. Further, he mentioned that life is full of constraints, so the students must learn to juggle around and get the best out of a situation. Lastly, he summarized his career success in three words; Passion, Patience and Perseverance (PPP).

At the end, Ammar Amer (Officer Corporate Relations, UMT-OCS), Khalid Naqi (Director Career Services, UMT-OCS) and Zareen Khan (Lead Core Ops, UMT-OCS), thanked the participating organizations, and distributed certificates and souvenirs to show their gratitude for the contribution of these organizations towards the economy at large by exhibiting their recruitment activities and helping to eliminate unemployment. In the concluding remarks, OCS team, Ushers, Marshals and all the university management offices were praised for their support and timely execution of the event by effective management followed by group photographs.
