University of Management and Technology (UMT) organised a Job Fair on 19th December 2013 at its main campus Johar town Lahore under the theme of “Power Your Future”, it brought 60 desired employers under one roof. The one day event, witnessed over 6,500 plus job seekers from different universities exploring job opportunities in their areas of Interest.
UMT Lahore is educating business leaders of tomorrow while creating knowledge that has a critical significance for industry and society. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) recognizes all degree programs offered by UMT, which distinguishes itself with 350 full-time faculty members including 58 PhDs, 14,000 plus alumni and 6500 plus students currently enrolled from 69 districts of Pakistan and 17 countries across the globe. We are very proud of our graduates!
Office of Career Services (OCS) at UMT was responsible for holding this job fair. OCS is working very hard in bridging the gap between the two sectors, education and corporate. It has already helped hundreds of talented UMT graduates to find the right career path, already, many companies and employers have been able to hire talented candidates by the efforts of OCS. The event was organized in collaboration with Jang Group that has been launched with a vision to Empowering Youth. It has gained remarkable popularity in students, professionals and corporate community in a very short span of time, which attracted positive response by the university graduates and alumni who turned up in large numbers.

The objective of the Job Fair was to provide an opportunity to the job seekers for personal and professional growth through interaction with top corporate organizations while presenting themselves as the best candidate for vacancies available. It provided an excellent opportunity to meet top employers of the country with hundreds of jobs available with them. On the other hand, It also provided organizations an opportunity to show-case their human resource function, helping them to attract talented, qualified and motivated human resource.
Event was inaugurated by Mr Sohail Lashari, Presendent LCCI along with honourable Rector UMT Dr Hassan Sohaib Murad, Mr Sohail Lashari congratulated UMT staff for organizing such a Mega event and bringing so many organizations under one roof He said “ such events can be very fruitful for job seekers and results in motivating the youth, He further commented, “This is also an opportunity to create good and effective networking along with a fair chance for organizations to explore right talent and recruit the best”.
Dr Hassan Sohaib Murad, Rector UMT, said “At UMT we are focused to place our graduates right after their graduation. He further added “it’s one of the major responsibilities of any prestigious Institute to organise such events, where graduates can interact with their desired employers for jobs, internships and volunteer work. Job fairs can put participants on the fast-track to gaining a job, help companies fill vacancies and solve workforce issues in the community.” He also added “our goal has always been to help graduates in every way we can to achieve their objectives and get them their dream jobs as one of the evidence is this Mega job fair with the maximum number of vacancies under one roof”.
Mr Farzoq Ahmad Chaudhry, Director OCS, stated that Universities in Pakistan are still not working so closely with the corporate sector as he believes that bridging this gap is really important not just for placements of students but also to help corporate sector in many other way’s, working so closely with the corporate sector will help universities in making their course outline according to the current working practices which will save time & cost of the organizations to train fresh graduates and the graduates having a better understanding of corporate sector which will enable them to easily adjust in any organisation. We at UMT believe in working very closely with the corporate sector as we believe that universities which are only depending on the books can’t prepare a student that well to take its first step in practical life.

This Mega event brought more than 600 jobs to a single platform. This figure and number of opportunities make this event a very unique one. It has never happened in Pakistan before. The fair saved many job seekers from the hassle of going to different places and offices for interviews and dropping their CV’s. Ltd, Raaziq, Rafi Group & Zaitoon Group, Shabbir Tiles and Ceramics Limited, Sparco Paints, Student Counseling services, Stylo Shoes, Tapal Tea Private Limited, Techliance, Habib Bank LTD, Al-Nusrah International and Wi-Tribe were the participating organizations offering 600 vacancies in various disciplines. Many people were interviewed on the spot for vacancies in the organisations like Bayt, Nestle, Haier, Panasian group, Nextbridge, Coca Cola etc.
After an outstanding success, We believe that this Job fair brought the talented job seekers and employers at a single platform shared their common interest to excel. This, indeed, was heartening and also enabled us to achieve our goal of Empowering Youth. No matter what area of interest you have or what have you specialized in, all type of jobs were offered in this event.
The students lauded the services of University of Management and Technology and said because of this initiative, students had not only been provided with quality education and healthy academic environment, but career guidance and growth opportunities. They said that the recent activities had resulted in quick recruitment to various organisations and more students are being selected through such activities.
Majority of employers said that HR branding, strong trust and familiarity with office of career services were the major reasons for them to participate in this job fair, whereas few employers considered it because of the high volume of hires and the huge benefit of networking.

This Job Fair 2013 has helped hundreds of job seekers from all over the city of various universities. It proved beneficial for many professional companies out there. We hope that future gives us the chance to witness more of such amazing and fruitful events!
